Friends of the Nevada County Libraries
The Gold Rush Book Fair was founded by John Hardy, a retired San Francisco trial lawyer, lifelong book collector and seller of rare and out-of-print books and ephemera. His world renowned Hardy Books (www.hardybooks.com) is located in Nevada City, CA. The Grass Valley – Nevada City area has long been a haven of book stores and book lovers. John and his wife Susie, who co-produced the fair for nine years, felt that an antiquarian book fair would be a perfect match for the historic area. Although antiquarian and collectable books are at the heart of the Book Fair, there were also more contemporary and affordable books on display and for sale. “The beauty of this book fair is the range of material - from readable used books for a few dollars to rare and collectible books, maps, photographs, manuscripts and other ephemera,” says Hardy.
The Friends of the Nevada County Libraries produced the Fair for two years in 2010 and 2011. Unfortunately, the Fair did not have enough volunteers to continue producing the fair after 2011. If you would like to discuss the Gold Rush Book Fair please contact us at 530-265-1407.
